What is Resurrection Sunday?

God had told man from the beginning that the consequence of our sin would be death. He meant not only physical death but also eternal death. Eternal death is being cut off from all communion with God and suffering eternally in hell under His wrath. But Jesus came to earth to save us from that death. He endured the wrath of God perfectly on the cross for us.

However, God’s work of salvation does not end there. Not only did He give Himself up to death on the cross, but on the third day Jesus rose again, conquering death. That is, He paid the penalty for us in full and came out of that punishment. Therefore, Jesus is not the crucified one today, nor is He still buried, but He is the risen One who sits at the right hand of the glory of God in heaven as the Lord of all Lords. All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to Him.

Like Jesus, who was most despised by God on the cross and was exalted by God to have the name above every name, those who believe in Him are saved in union with him from all condemnation and receive free justification in the presence of God. Just as Jesus was rejected by God on the cross and vindicated by God in His resurrection, those who are His by faith freely pass from the wrath of God into the favour of God. When Jesus came out of the grave, through union with Him, they also came out of eternal death. Therefore, there is no longer any condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. Instead of being called sinners worthy of eternal punishment, they are now called the justified children of God.

Moreover, along with their forgiveness of sins, all who believe in Jesus today can also experience as partakers of His resurrection life the same freedom of Jesus from the law of sin and death through the Holy Spirit in their practical lives. So now it is possible for those who believe in Jesus to live a good life that truly brings glory to God by worshipping, obeying, and following God properly. To God, who has given such great salvation, be glory forever and ever through Jesus Christ. Amen.
